There isn’t a shortage of news platforms and more and more new ones – like this one – keep starting up. There is, however, clear distinction between them.
Some are purely focused on generating ad revenue and, therefore, their websites and apps are plagued with adverts popping out all over the place or videos auto-playing in the corner or, sometimes, not even loading at all because there’s just so much advertising embedded in it. A particularly annoying aspect of some platforms is how news articles are dissected by adverts after each paragraph meaning a user can’t even read a news story properly. These platforms are a poor user experience.
Other platforms, apart from being ad-infested, are also politically-aligned and actively promote a skewed perspective on news.
We aim to be different by keeping our platform clean and easy on the eye. We will have adverts, but they will be carefully placed and in-line with our design principles. Our focus is the news itself and if that’s a written article, then the article will be the focus, so no adverts after every sentence. We can do this because we’re new, agile and we don’t have huge expenses or hungry shareholders other news publishers have. We don’t need to place adverts everywhere to maximise revenue to stay afloat, at the expense of the news itself.
We hope you enjoy the news experience we provide and please feel free to get in touch with suggestions on how we can improve it.
